Manager of the Histology Core Facility, which supports tissue-based research across the Institute, offering histology services such as embedding and fixation, through to developing advanced workflows for tissue-specific staining and spatial biology.
About Garry Ashton
Garry manages and oversees the activities of the Histology Core Facility. He offers hands-on provision of all advanced histological techniques as required, as well as training new team members and offering a support to researchers. This includes helping them understand and interpret the results of their histology experiments, giving troubleshooting advice, quality reporting, supporting good experimental design, and providing advanced technical skills training.
Garry keep abreast of new technical developments and equipment across the discipline of histology, and supports implementation of these new techniques into the Core Facility. He develops staff skills and evaluates performance, facilitates collaborations both internally between research groups and core facilities, and externally. His work incudes developing performance standards and quality control processes. All of this forms part of a process of continuous improvement to increase quality and efficiency across the Facility.
