Visiting Students

We welcome visiting students from other Institutes to collaborate on their current research project and spend time developing additional skills, training and knowledge at the CRUK Manchester Institute.

Julie Edwards

Postgraduate Education Manager

Eligibility

A Visiting Student will be registered at another recognised institution in the UK, EU or Overseas on a programme of postgraduate study with an approved qualification, and whose short-term attendance for a defined period of time at The University of Manchester, will contribute to their studies.

If you are studying at another Institute you may be eligible to spend some time at the CRUK Manchester Institute.

The total period of attendance will normally be between 1 to 12 months as part of one visit on a full-time basis.  Students must be formally registered with The University of Manchester.

Registration ensures a student’s experience is in keeping with all other postgraduate students, providing University identification, allowing access to email, access to the library, other buildings and facilities.

Please note that visiting students must secure their own funding, including visa, travel and accommodation costs, and are limited to a maximum stay of one year.

University of Manchester tuition fees also applyTuition fees may be applied at the ‘collaborative fee’ rate when a student is attached to a supervisor as part of a genuine collaborative research initiative.

For overseas/EU students, the University of Manchester’s Doctoral Academy Admissions team will determine if a ATAS clearance is required.  There is an expectation that student visits of 6-12 months will need to meet IELTS requirements or equivalent acceptable language test if you are applying from outside a majority English-speaking country/you haven’t studied at a university in English before/you are applying for a visa.

Next Steps

If you are interested in visiting as a postgraduate to study with a supervisor based at the CRUK Manchester Institute, you should first contact the proposed supervisor directly to discuss further before applying to The University of Manchester for consideration.

“We are so pleased to have received the funding to enable us to test our hypothesis in the lab. If we can create a new medicine that can precisely target a specific type of cell within the tumour, and restore anti-cancer immune responses, this will be a game-changer for oesophageal cancer patients “

“The Paterson Building is an amazing place to work, and already it is clear that its design is helping to promote interactions, which was something we all very much hoped would happen”

“We’ve seen some remarkable responses, with an improvement for some patients within days. This is an early phase trial so there’s a lot more work to do. But the data we have so far is very encouraging and could help many thousands of people in the future”
