BRU Scientific Officer Tom Bosley wins award for improving animal welfare
Congratulations to Tom Bosely who has been awarded the Andrew Blake Tribute Award at this year’s Institute of Animal Technology annual congress.
The Institute of Animal Technology is the UK’s leading professional body for animal technologists, responsible for advancing and promoting excellence in the care and welfare of animals in research.
The Andrew Blake Tribute Award commemorates the work and life of Andrew Blake, who was passionate about animal welfare and supporting laboratory animal technicians. The award acknowledges the dedication of animal technologists to enhancing laboratory animal care and welfare.
Each year the IAT present the Andrew Blake Tribute Award – sponsored by The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement & Reduction of Animals in Research (the NC3Rs) – in recognition of an animal technologist judged to have made a significant contribution to improving laboratory animal welfare.
Tom, a scientific officer in the Experimental Team in the Biological Resource Unit at the Institute received the award for his significant contribution to a collaboration improving the welfare of SKH1 mice.
Presenting his winning poster at the IAT conference, Tom says he “felt honoured to receive the ‘ABTA’.”
Tom is passionate about improving animal welfare and has also been recognised internally for his commitment to supporting a culture of care, receiving two AWERB Recognition Awards.
Well done, Tom.

I felt honoured to receive the Andrew Blake Tribute Award.
