Nathalie Dhomen
MCRC Commercialisation and Innovation Lead
Nathalie’s role harnesses a partnership between the Manchester Cancer Research Centre, the University of Manchester Innovation Factory and CRUK Horizons to facilitate commercialisation and translation of Manchester-based oncology research into patient benefit and social impact.
About Dr Nathalie Dhomen
With an MBA qualification and 15 years of experience in basic and translational research at The Institute of Cancer Research, London, the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Melbourne, and the CRUK Manchester Institute, Nathalie moved into the field of technology transfer in 2022.
She now works to leverage her expertise and network to best facilitate the translation of ground-breaking cancer research conducted at the CRUK Manchester Institute and wider MCRC to patient impact.
She works in close collaboration with the CRUK Horizons’ Sourcing and Evaluation Team and the UoM Innovation Factory’s Innovation Discovery Team, to support the translation of innovative research to the clinic and the market.
A key part of the role is to oversee the sourcing of new innovations and support academics and clinicians in identifying the relevant commercialisation pathways to progress their research translation.
Why I work at CRUK MI
“I really enjoy engaging with the Manchester cancer research community, where both the scientists and their research are wonderfully diverse and stimulating. Translating and developing that research so it reaches the clinic and transforms the lives of cancer patients is both challenging and incredibly rewarding, and I am humbled to be able to contribute to that impact by supporting our stellar researchers on that journey.”
Visit Commercialisation and Innovation Support
Translating innovative research to the clinic so that it can transform the lives of patients and their families is not straightforward, and takes time and resource. Commercialisation avenues such as licensing the research to existing companies or spinning out a new company are ways of harnessing what has been developed in the laboratory and scaling it up to benefit patients across the UK and beyond.
The Commercialisation Lead can support researchers who are setting out on that journey by helping them identify and protect key IP, accessing translational funding and business accelerator schemes, building business models for their research, and connecting them with consultants and investors.
