About Dr Simon Poucher
Dr Poucher completed his PhD in cardiovascular physiology in 1985 at the University of Leeds. He then joined ICI Pharmaceuticals (which eventually became Astrazeneca) and worked in a number of therapeutic areas over twenty-seven years. Research areas included peripheral vascular disease, myocardial ischaemia, hepatic fibrosis, cancer cachexia and finally diabetes.
Simon was also a Personal Licence Holder and Project licence holder during those years. During this time, he is most proud of his involvement in the development of the adenosine receptor A2a antagonist ZM241385 and the anti-diabetic agent Forxiga (dapagliflozin).
He joined CRUK Manchester Institute in January 2015 and enjoys helping scientists with their licence applications to the Home Office so that they can be approved on a very efficient timescale.
