About the role

We are looking to appoint a Scientific Officer to join the Molecular Biology Core department. The role sits within a service-oriented team that supports cutting-edge research at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. Responsibilities include molecular analysis of biological samples, quality control testing of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), and next-generation sequencing. The successful candidate will contribute to entire molecular biology workflows, from sample quality assessment through to data processing using the department’s high-throughput technology platforms. Working closely with service users is central to this role, requiring excellent communication skills and a flexible, responsive approach. About you

You should hold a degree in a biosciences subject or have equivalent relevant experience. You will bring knowledge and expertise in a range of molecular biology techniques, with training provided to develop any additional skills required. You should also have relevant experience working in a life sciences laboratory and a good understanding of next-generation sequencing applications.

We are seeking enthusiastic bench scientists who work meticulously, assess their results critically, and contribute effectively to a multidisciplinary team. The role requires independent thinking, a collaborative mindset, and strong communication skills.

Wolfgang Breitwiese is Manager of the Molecular Biology Core Facility who provide a wide range of services for precision and high-throughput analysis of DNA and RNA for research projects across the Institute.

The Molecular Biology Core provides a wide range of services for precision and high throughput analysis of DNA and RNA to assist in molecular biology projects within the CRUK Manchester Institute. We have developed a multitude of workflows for automated assay running and support scientists with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.
